Massage Therapy for Optimum Therapeutic Results
Myofascial Massage Therapy is a deep tissue massage technique that can effect profound changes in the connective tissue enveloping the musculature and, consequently, in the muscles themselves. This technique is often indicated for chronic pain, tension, lost range of motion, postural imbalances or distortions, guarding and otherwise unmoving tissue. By releasing restrictions in the soft tissue, this work can aid in establishing freer and flowing movement and balance in the body.
As with other forms of bodywork, the therapist and client must establish a treatment plan that incorporates the client’s history, treatment needs, desired results, assessment by the therapist of the client’s condition, and a commitment to a time frame for review of therapeutic improvements. Generally, clients may show results in five sessions, usually scheduled within a fairly short window, such a one session per week for five weeks or two sessions per week for two and a half weeks.
Myofascial Massage Therapy can be accomplished through clothing, or with the client fully draped except for the area that requires treatment, to maintain respect for the client.
A client can greatly augment the therapeutic impact of this
work through self-care at home, such as stretching tight areas and
strengthening weak ones, modifying breathing patterns, making changes to his or
her work station for greater comfort and improving overall self awareness.
